The Raft / Marcus Lindeen Fotograf/Källa: Fasad Produktion

The Raft by director Markus Lindeen receivedthe top prize at CPH:DOX in Copenhagen – the DOX:AWARD, at an awards ceremony on Friday. CPH:DOX is one of the world’s leading documentary film festivals where The Raft had its celebrated world premiere in the main competition.

The Raft is a documentary about the anthropologist Santago Genové’s social experiment from the 70’s, when he launched a raft that would drift from the Canary Islands to Mexico with five women and six men on board. In the film, seven of the participants are reunited for the first time in 43 years in a film studio where an exact copy of the raft has been built. Their memories from the journey are interspersed with unique archival footage and tell the story of one of the most peculiar group experiments in history.

– I’m very grateful for the prize and the fantastic start it means for the film. CPH:DOX has become one of the most important international platforms for documentaries and has a keen eye for artistically challening films, says Director Marcus Lindeen.

The reproduction of the raft that was exhibited at Centre Pompidou 2017 was also exhibited at Charlottenborg in Copenhagen during the festival.

Marcus Lindeen made his debut with Regretters, which was awarded a Guldbagge for Best Documentary 2011. Producer is Erik Gandini at the production company Fasad. The film has received a grant by the documentary film commissioner Cecilia Lidin at the Swedish Film Institute.
